eastwood episode. did not change a lot of minds. the selection of paul ryan was a pretty strong selection. he turned out to be a very strong campaigner. i think he certainly please the conservative base. on the other hand, the challenger did not win wisconsin so didn't pay off in that regard. but the first debate absolutely did pay off. romney came in very well prepared for a lot of people who predisposed to not like him, he came off as presidential, very smart, very comfortable with himself, and clearly it was obvious that the president had prepared for the wrong debate. he clearly had prepared for romney to take a host of positions that he did not push forward in that first debate. romney had his chance for a comeback. he just was not able to keep it going in the debates that followed. now, three quick and narratives that turned out to be true about the american public. one is a think americans want to be hopeful. during an election like this, they want to be inspired to want to be told the world can be better. this is the main reason obama was elected the first time around. it was a lo

it, but that and what paul ryan say they continue to have the sort of racism that was underlying the entire campaign. paul ryan saying they won because of urban areas? the president didn't win just in urban areas. it's just so insulting. it's just whining and excuse making. >> cry babies, sore losers. >> stephanie: thank you sean hannity. really that was stunning to me and doubling down on the 47% comment. it's so bitter and its insulting. you know, we have free stuff. that's exactly what rush limbaugh said, oey. more on the press conference in a moment. kids carbonite is how we keep this whole thing running around here. life can be unpredictable. roland back in new york, he's still putting his ceiling back together. he lost everything in his computer. that would be it for sexy liberal incorporated, my friend. power outage, virus you don't even have to live in a storm area. carbonite backs up everything, it's not if but when you have a computer disaster of some sort. i had a chardonnay-related incident, just saying. once you have carbonite you don't have to worry about backing ev

that if marco rubio had been the vice presidential choice instead of paul ryan that that would have made a difference in florida, virginia, nevada, and colorado? >> no. it wouldn't have made enough of a difference in this election. but if marco rubio is the presidential candidate, in 2016, and the party begins to advocate, enforcement, plus amnesty after enforcement, i think it will be a sea change. i think you will get a revolution of the hispanic vote. i think it will restore all this talk about how republics are demographickics ticket is nonsense. >> thank you as always. >> a pleasure. >> bill: factor tip of the day about you and christmas. the tip 60 seconds away. >> bill: i'm glad you are talking to the kids about thisi. lisa. zbloogt thinking why beed bus end >> bill: we can find no such evidence, charles. if you have it. please forward it to me. >> bill: wow, that is some great wife, tim. especially since the vegas show is sold out. the only one that still has seats is in houston. contend and lincoln number three and kennedy number one.

by an outlined by paul ryan. the important thing to understand is the american people understood that choice, and they voted for barack obama. they also voted for two more democratic senators. the senate will be much more progressive than it was in the last senate. in the states, the elected at least six democratic governors, potentially a seventh for washington state. they shifted state legislature the state of maine going from a republican-controlled legislature to a very democratic legislature. new york state, legislative shipped along with many others. the bottom line, in this election that was frank in many ways as a choice of austerity, people rejected it. it is very important that it be understood that this was not a to close to call election. president obama has a mandate from the american people to push back against a right-wing economic. he must. the problem is, i am not sure he will do that. i'm not sure he will do that as efficiently. i am most concerned perhaps that progressives will not fully recognize that. that they have a power to make real demand on this president. i was in

that paul ryan, who was a national figure but far more recognized by those of us in the intellectual world and the common period and by others he could have walked through any airport outside of wisconsin in america and might well have gone unnoticed by one or two people. now obviously he is a significant national figure and clearly one in the mix for 2016. but he is in the mix for that kind of conservative community that is dominated let primary caucus process before. going along with these compromises that include tax increases as part of a package becomes a little tricky for him and also becomes tricky for john boehner because now you have with the young guns one of them is an even more than the enormous national figure. finally, let me say the next few weeks are not just about the fiscal cliff. we have a farm bill waiting for action. a farm bill that passed with 74 votes and this is an interesting template as we talk about the fiscal cliff. in the senate model of bipartisanship even in the midst of the greatest drought since the great depression, the house didn't act. whether they can

not believe you have to change the basic structure of medicare and medicaid, as paul ryan does. you can find great savings by working with the inefficiencies. >> excuse me. john. >> speaker boehner talked about not increasing tax rates for small businesses. if that framework could be accomplished, what kind of revenues could be raised within that framework? could you consider the limit on the value of deductions that the president had in his budget? >> in terms of small businesses, how do you define a small business? that is one of the slippery slopes. do you define a multibillion- dollar entertainment company, sports team, or hedge fund as a small business because their structure happens to be a business structure? everyone agrees that what we really mean when we say small business, what the typical voter envisions, is the local dry cleaner, the manufacturer who has 15 people making widgets and stuff like that. nobody thinks they should have their taxes raised. if it is used as code for people who are very wealthy and really large businesses, do not fit the traditional definition, that is a

job in the senate, just like we will do here in the house. >> why is mitt romney and paul ryan -- why did they lose and the republicans lost seats in the house and senate? what do think the republican party needs to do to make sure it doesn't happen again? >> can you identify yourself? >> jonathan with the new york times. >> i think that is a great question. many of us are looking and thinking about that. i do not think we lost by being too conservative and articulating our principles to clearly. it was the opposite. the 2010 election was a way the election, a tremendous response from the same folks that propelled the symbol latest republican majority in decades. i do not think the turn of the diamonds and we do not want to cut spending, balance our budget, that is not what they said. eisler margin of 51%, the president was reelected -- by a very slim margin of 51%, the president was reelected. not just the folks that breed the wall street journal, no disrespect, but there are millions of other americans who have not heard what we believe and and the value of limited government. i do

, the largely white state of iowa. it's not why he won the hometown of paul ryan, janesville, wisconsin. so there's just a factual issue. but third and biggest, and this is where you heard the louisiana governor, bobby jindal, installed yesterday as the chairman of the republican governors association. this is where you heard him coming in, that republicans say this is a just-doesn't-get-it moment for romney. it makes republicans think that the 47% comment was no slip of the tongue. at his press conference in las vegas yesterday, governor jindal, our reporter, says became visibly agitated about this and said these comments were absolutely wrong. and they come at a time when almost every other leading republican figure is saying the party really needs to look inside itself and change karl rove. in "the wall street journal" today, it's saying the republican party needs to reverse engineer what the obama campaign did in its turnout efforts. senator john cornyn of texas, the head of the senate republicans, as of yesterday, the number two senate republican under mitch mcconnell, saying the repub
